Today I made Capital One my Bitch
Okay so I just made them refund $15 of a lying late fee. Last month I was legitimately late on paying my bill, so the April 8th late fee, we were cool. We accepted each other’s mistakes for what they were and moved on. I made a payment on the 10th of April, and kind-of assumed it would count towards the next billing cycle anyways so I wasn’t concerned when I was late logging into my account (late again) in May. But alas there was another late fee! E-gads! This late fee and I, we weren’t cool with each other.
So I called and talked to a fine gentleman, Alex, whom I had a little trouble hearing. Part cell reception, part heavy accent, yet I digress.
I pointed out that I had been charged a late fee, paid off my entire balance including fees then was charged another late fee. He informed me that since I made the payment before my bill was generated it didn’t count. I’m sorry, I have payments that don’t count? How about the charges in this seven day windows between past due payments and the next billing generation dates, do any charges I make not count towards late fees or my principal balance.
He stood firmly by his decision to charge me a $15 late fee when I had only used the card for a total of $24 that month. So I played the “Oh, okay. Then I’d like to speak to one of your supervisors or someone who can make the adjustment to remove this late fee of I’m going to close the account.” After waiting on hold for a minute Alex informed me that while speaking to a senior representative he found that he could remove the charge.

LOL. Good for you! They don’t want you to close your account. They are hoping to hit you up with many late fees in the future.
