Before I get into any major site wide updates I’m going to make some more subtle tweaks to the site so I have all the functionality nailed down before I begin to tweak the design.
Update RSS
That’s right folks update your RSS feeds: Blog RSS | Recent Links RSS Feed
My RSS feed is generated by WordPress which should come as no shock since it’s a WordPress blog. I’ve noticed through Google’s Webmaster toolkit that I have 3 subscribers (hi folks!) and in Mint I can see people are arriving via Google reader. Pretty cool, though after thinking and evaluating how seriously I want to take this blog I’ve decided to move my feeds to FeedBurner.
I added both my main feed and my recent links feed. FeedBurner has a great feature where they can track click through’s which is great for my Recent Links RSS Feed. That way I don’t have to send my readers on a click maze from the RSS – > my site – > The link they wanted to see. Now they can go straight from their RSS reader to the link they want to see and I can still track click through’s.
An additional RSS change that I made is adding an image to my RSS feeds. Well actually this is still a work in progress since I am creating a plugin to do so inspired by Anup Shah Adding a logo to your WordPress RSS Feed tutorial. More about that plugin when it’s complete and I feature it on the blog! ;)
Get my Search back on!
I’ve got posts, it’s time to get my search back! Oh snaps. Consider it back! Now that I have content to actually search through the search actually exists for a reason. Nice work team!
I chose to add in the Addicted to Live Search WordPress plug-in. Cause it took no more than 5 minutes to install and works with Prototype which I use allover the site and don’t want to have to remove just to make the search work!
Fix up that 404 Error Page
Obviously this page should be avoided at all cost but it will be useful for re-directing traffic to the correct places as well as a jump point to the archives and search!
