Trend Font Hunting - Decay and Script
Spent some quality font time today, specifically decay and scripts. I was looking on behalf of a project I might be picking up soon.
Since this project needs to be on the trendier, more media driven, side of design than the "corporate" content-driven I found that these fonts would probably be my most likely candidates when it comes time to get the design process started.
they would work not just for typography purposes, but also stylistic and design elements.
Hot Fonts (in alphabetical order)
Bleeding Cowboys

Bleeding Cowboys @ dafont.com
Bleeding Cowboys has a very scripted western feel to it. It's classy without having to shoot 'em up first. I really like the way the characters interact with each other, though I do worry that they might be a little over the top and that you would have to have the just right word to use it with.
Carnevalee Freakshow

Carnevalee Freakshow @ dafont.com
Carnevalee Freakshow looks straight off a old truck loaded traveling carnival. I love carnival fonts because they evoke a certain excitement. Not so much joy or happiness as much as edge of your seat thrills.
Chic Decay

Chic Decay @ dafont.com
Chic Decay is a pretty messy font which in my case is a definite strength; it would be perfect for layering with a more legible font. It almost looks like Garamond and Scriptina got in a fight that sent each other to the hospital and this is what we ended up with. I'm such a dork for saying that.
Dirty English

Dirty English @ dafont.com
Dirty English has the same messy quality as the above listed chic decay. Though, Dirty English has more distinct lettering and an more scripted movement in the letter form.
El&Font Gothic!

El&Font Gohtic! @ dafont.com
El&Font Gothic! also has a very messy quality to it, and while I'm not terribly fond of the reversed letters or the symbols in some of the letter forms I think the scratches are quite elegant and have potential when the correct letters are being used.
I can see this working well with a layered look also.
Gartentika

Gartentika @ dafont.com
Gartentika is an interesting mix of styles. It's got a very distressed texture to the letters, but the letters themselves are almost a mix between calligraphy and an leaf/blossom/insect antenna. It's strong whimsical font that could also be used in a darker sense of whimsy.
Hurricane SupaDupaSerif

Hurricane SupaDupaSerif @ dafont.com
Hurricane SupaDupaSerif has a wind-blown disheveled look to it that is really accents the fairly polished script under-tones. It has alot of potential especially with layering, and still provides a fairly legible typeface.
Mutlu Ornamental

Mutlu Ornamental @ dafont.com
Mutlu Ornamental has almost too much of an old English "flourish" style to it for the needs of this project but could be subtly deployed to ass a lot of class to something that appears a little too disheveled and messy.
One Fell Swoop

One Fell Swoop @ dafont.com
One Fell Swoop has always been a favorite of mine, I just have yet to find the perfect use for it. I'm not fancy, but it's not too messy, it's just kind-of there. One day I will find the right project where it will perfectly compliment the rest of the design. One day.
Starstruck

Starstruck @ dafont.com
I really like the way Starstruck's letters interact with each other without going overboard. It's a very graceful font and achieves it's celestial goal. I don't know if it would really work with the project I have in mind but there's something about it that says "Give me a chance, I think I'll surprise you!"
